Architectural designs can be a thorny topic, especially when it comes to the most important of all structures: the home. The problem is even though several people have aspirations for building their dream homes; most of these same people do not have the experience and knowhow necessary for designing or simply directing the design of these dream structures.

However, there are many consultants who are willing to offer solutions customized to an owner’s desires. Some of these solutions reflect years of professional experience from various architects and designers. Below are a few of these architectural designs tips.

Survey and Combine Designs

The first task of good architectural designs is to survey every part of the location at different times of the day. It is essential to know where the sun shines and where breezes come from at various hours of the day. This way, you can utilize this information for determining ways to use this natural light and wind to bring down future costs related to lighting, ventilation, and heating.

Next, try to couple interior and exterior designs together to expand the feeling of space. This translates to the breaks or partitions between interior rooms as well. A smart idea is to have the living area open and flowing with archways instead of doors to other shared parts of the house (except for private places such as bathrooms).

Lighting and Kitchen Placement

A minimum number of walls translates to a minimum number of lighting fixtures, especially during the day. Feel free to add more windows (wherever feasible) to ensure that specific areas receive as much light as possible during daytime hours. You could consider adding skylights in bathrooms and other areas of the home that receive natural light.

Consider the placement of the kitchen very carefully. Most people do not realize how important the kitchen is or how central it can become to a family’s daily life; until they position it in the worst possible place, far removed from the rest of the house. Many smart designers opt to have the kitchen attached (and open) to the dining room, which means the family can practically treat that area as a second shared living space.

Entertainment Preparation

Funny as it might seem, you should consider your main television (or other device that is central to family interactions) when planning your new home’s architectural designs. Whether we like it or not, this device is generally the center of familial interaction nowadays. As most people end up staying in just to watch TV, you might as well account for that by deciding beforehand where it should go. Likewise, you can plan out and design your living areas (or bedrooms, if you are considering your bedroom’s TV or other central device) around that core device you have chosen.

These tips can make developing architectural designs more easier for first-time designers. You could acquire more tips and strategies if you consult with an architect or design consultant. Look around for architects or even ask your friends (if they are familiar with this profession) if they can assist you in this architectural designs endeavor.
